Current Update on Illegally Placed ‘For Lease/Rent’ Signs

photo (8) (2)Regarding the issue of illegally placed rental/lease signs, multiple attempts have been made to contact the Code Enforcement Department . As of yesterday contact has been established with Assistant Manager Mike Woika, but no satisfactory explanation has been given.

Of the main roads investigated, which include Boca Raton Blvd., Federal Hwy., Glades Rd. and Palmetto Park Rd., the number of signs accounted for currently amounts to more than 200.

However, our investigation currently circles around one ‘For Lease’ sign located at the intersection of Glades Rd. and Boca Raton Blvd., which is illegally in place and clearly violates the regulations set forth by the Municipal Code Enforcement, where it states:

“Sec. 24-6. Unlawful signs, sign structures: Real Estate sign definition – any sign erected by the owner, or an agent, advertising the land upon which the sign is located for rent or for sale.      Sale, Lease, Rent – temporary signs, which indicate that a parcel or building is currently for sale, lease, or rent.” The Code goes on to say: “When a business or service is discontinued, all signs relating to the business or service shall be removed within 10 days from the date of discontinuance. The sign structure may remain in place if the sign text is not visible, provided the sign text is covered with an approved durable material. Failure to so remove such a sign shall subject the sign to removal and disposition pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.”

Based on these rules, one clear question begs an answer: Why is the sign still in place if it advertises available space for lease, when all spaces in the plaza have already been occupied? Does anyone see this clear violation?

Given the situation, our team continues to approach city representatives in order to get answers as to why the illegally placed signs have not yet been removed.

More information and updates will follow until the situation is resolved.
