Boca Museum of Art Appoints Irvin Lippman as Interim Director

Irvin-Lippman Boca Raton, FL – The Boca Museum of Art’s Board of Trustees today announced that it has chosen Irvin Lippman as Interim Director. Lippman will lead the Museum and a search committee tasked with identifying a new Executive Director. Former Executive Director of the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale from 2003 to 2012, Lippman brings a long list of accomplishments garnered over decades working in the visual arts.

“The enthusiasm I see on the Board and among the staff of the Museum will enable us to move forward into a bright future. I believe I can be an agent for positive change during this transitional period,” said Lippman. “The Museum is uniquely situated in a beautiful park alongside thriving businesses, restaurants, and shops and in a larger community in the most desirable of locations. We must collaborate with our neighbors to find ways to embrace the arts and use the Museum as a centerpiece in the lives of Boca Raton residents and visitors. We must also strive to be one of the nation’s most welcoming and smartest art museums. I see all the ingredients here to make that happen. This is our call to action that continues to move the Museum on its upward trajectory.”

With Lippman’s appointment to ensure the Museum’s continued financial stability and prominence in the community, Dalia Stiller, President of the Board said, “The potential for growth and engagement has never been greater. I am personally very excited that Irvin has agreed to work with us and provide his leadership which we so very much respect. He will work closely with the Board in its search for the next Executive Director.”

During his tenure at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Lippman presented critically acclaimed exhibitions such asTutankhamun and the Golden Age of the PharaohsCradle of Christianity: Jewish and Christian Treasures from the Holy Land, Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, and Old Master Paintings from the Uffizi Gallery. Lippman established an Artist-in-Residence program, bringing talented artists who created site-specific installations and served as guest curators, underscoring the community dialogue between artists, collectors, and the public which has now become a hallmark of the Museum. He additionally established a Studio Arts School and Education Center to offer a wide variety of curricula in drawing, design, and painting. Subsequently he oversaw the merger of the Museum into Nova Southeastern University in 2008.

Previously, Lippman served as the Executive Director at the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Ohio (1994-2002); Assistant Director of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas (1983-1994) before which he oversaw the public affairs and publications at the Carter (1983-1987).  His museum career began as Staff Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. (1975-1982).  He received his MA in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin and his BFA from the University of Denver.

Since retiring from the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Lippman has been living in Fort Worth, Texas.
