New members join Soroptimist Chapter of Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach

Members, friends and nominees of the Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach Chapter of Soroptimist International recently gathered at the Boca Raton home of District One Director Kim Champion for their annual “Gratitude Breakfast.”

“It was more than just a breakfast,” said Kim. “It was also a new member induction ceremony.”

Geralyn Lunsford, who lives in Deerfield and works in Boynton Beach, was the first member installed. She is the new administrator for Bethesda Hospital West (to open in January, 2013.) Currently, she is vice president of Patient Services at Bethesda Memorial Hospital. Geralyn learned about Soroptimist by attending the recent Women of Distinction Breakfast.

Klarissa Kitchen lives in Boca Raton and works in Broward County as a financial aid advisor for college students. She learned about the Soroptimist through the club’s “Women’s Opportunity Awards,” which provides educational funding to female heads of households to better their lives.

“A Beads for Life” jewelry display, organized by club members Cynthia Cummings, Elke Schmidt and Maureen Burke, supports a Women’s Village in Uganda by selling their unique, colorful, handmade jewelry. Through jewelry sales, raffles and special events, Soroptimist members live up to their motto: “To raise money, and donate money, to help women and girls, locally and internationally, who demonstrate great need and ability to improve their lives.
