Hundreds honor Boca benefactor Henrietta, Countess de Hoernle on 100th Birthday

BOCA RATON – Hundreds of friends, well-wishers and admirers gathered at Boca West Country Club the night of Sept. 24 to honor Henrietta, Countess de Hoernle, the woman responsible for donating more than $40 million to charities in Florida and New York.

An estimated 500 people surrounded the remarkable philanthropist who told the media before the event, “I’m glad I made it to 100.”

She repeated one of her signature lines, “Give while you live so you know where it goes.”  And she wants others to “do the same,” especially for children, veterans and the sick.

The event was sponsored by the community along with the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller Commandery of Florida, which gave her and her late husband, Adolph, the titles of Count and Countess.

In addition to her donations, the Countess served on 16 boards of directors each year for more than 30 different charities in her lifetime.
The celebration was headed up by Dame Isabelle K. Paul DCGSJ and Vice-Chair Dame Alyce E. Erickson DSJ with honorary chairs Christine Lynn and Barbara and Dick Schmidt
