Boca Raton Police K-9 Helps Catch Car Burglars

Boca Raton, FL – Boca Raton Police Services Officer Lyman and his K-9 Max are being credited with helping catch two teens responsible for breaking into multiple unlocked vehicles on Tuesday night.  A Boca Raton police officer was flagged down shortly before midnight near the intersection of Mizner Blvd and NE 3rd Street by Nathan Wilson.  Wilson informed the officer that he saw two teens breaking into his car and started chasing them, but they took off behind the Post Office on NE 2nd Street.

A perimeter was immediately set up and Officer Lyman and his K-9 Max and were called to the scene. Wilson informed officers that one of the suspects left behind one of his shoes.  Immediately K-9 Max picked up on their scent and the two were located hiding in a doorway alcove of a building at 150 East Boca Raton Road.

Wilson was able to identify the suspects who were found in possession of a backpack with a GPS, watches, sunglasses, cigars and other items inside.  Once arrested and brought back to the Boca Raton Police Services Department, the two teens admitted to breaking into Wilson’s car along with multiple other vehicles.

In the end, the two 16 year olds, Christopher Hayes and Brandon Myers, were arrested and charged with four counts of burglary to an unoccupied vehicle.  The two were also charged with Grand Theft Greater than $300, but less than $5,000.
