Strikers Herron Named Offensive Player of the Week

The NASL has named Fort Lauderdale Strikers forward Andy Herron Offensive Player of the Week after two goals in front of 10,114 fans in San Antonio on Saturday April 21st. The Strikers’ forward has formed a connection with midfielder Walter Restrepo, who assisted on both of Herron’s goals in San Antonio.

“Andy (Herron) benefitted from two great passes from Walter (Restrepo),” said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. “We’re happy to see our players recognized by the league for their efforts.”

Herron’s first goal came when Restrepo found him just inside the penalty area where Herron fired a near post shot toward goal and caught Scorpions goalkeeper Pat Hannigan wrong-footed. His second was a deft finish where Herron touched down a Restrepo pass and poked a shot past Hannigan to record the goal.

Herron is now tied for the NASL lead with three goals on the season. The Strikers forward becomes the first Striker to receive the award twice in during a regular season. Herron spent five seasons in Major League Soccer with the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew and has been capped 17 times for the Costa Rican National Team.
