30th Annual Heart Ball in Boca Feb. 25 to benefit American Heart Association

BOCA RATON — The American Heart Association will hold its 30th Annual Boca Raton Heart Ball February 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Woodfield Country Club. This black-tie affair celebrates the American Heart Association’s global achievements while raising funds to support local research and education, as well as children’s programs and emergency preparedness.

The event typically welcomes 350 guests. The elegant evening will begin with a sophisticated cocktail reception followed by a live and silent auction, a gourmet, heart-healthy cuisine and live musical entertainment by the Gypsy Lane Band.

Chairmen of the 2012 gala are Caren and Michael Weinberg. Longtime Boca Raton philanthropist Marleen Forkas is the Community Honoree. Dr. James Morris, Medical Director of the Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, is the Medical Honoree and Howard Schnellenberger, head football coach at Florida Atlantic University, is the Sports Honoree.

“My husband and I are thrilled to support the American Heart Association’s fight against heart disease and stroke on a local and national level by increasing awareness and raising much needed funds,” said Caren Weinberg, who’s been involved with the Heart Ball for the past several years.

Michael Weinberg said, “We are excited about bringing the community together in this essential effort to change the future of heart health.”

As a part of the Heart Ball initiative, the Weinberg’s hosted a “Heart of Gold” cocktail reception at their home on Wednesday, November 16. Guests mixed and mingled while also learning more about medical research as it relates to cardiovascular disease. The presentation featured guest speaker Charles H. Hennekens, MD, DrPH, a Sir Richard Doll Research Professor at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University.

Patron tickets for this unforgettable night begin at $325 and are available by calling Barbara Rogoff at (561) 697-6624 or emailing her at barbara.rogoff@heart.org.

Last year, the Heart Ball campaign raised just over $51 million nationwide, which allowed the Association to fund over $123 million of research and programs to fight heart disease and stroke.
