South County Community Back to School BASH

Three days ago thousands of local families were wondering where they would come up with the cash needed to buy school supplies for their children this year.  The downturn in the economy has made it tougher than ever for many Palm Beach County families to afford even the basic school supplies this year.

The Community Back to School Bash purchased and distributed school supplies to over 3,000 children in need in South Palm Beach County representing 21 local non-profit organizations. The umbrella organization combines the efforts of 55 local non-profit organizations which help over 10,000 needy children throughout the year in Palm Beach County.  This is the 16th year the group has worked together to provide local children with the opportunity to begin school with new backpacks and supplies to that they have the tools necessary for learning.

Children served by the program have already been screened for eligibility and several business and community partners have donated all of the funding needed to purchase the supplies.

Participating sponsors include: Continental Group, Office Depot Foundation, BB&T Bank, Jarden Consumer Products, JM Family Enterprises, UPS, Whole Foods, Junior League of Boca Raton, Kohl’s, Pepsi, and more supported efforts through corporate supply drives and cash donations.
