Paramedic Attacked While Helping Patient on Scene

Gehlhaus

By Kathryn Wohlpart

April Gehlhaus was arrested after hitting a paramedic who responded to The Dubliner Bar where Gehlhaus was in need of medical attention.

Gehlhaus appeared intoxicated and “had thrown up on herself prior to [police] arrival” according to the police affidavit. Gehlhaus yelled obscenities at Officer Christopher Rucco until she agreed to be transported by the paramedics to seek medical attention.

As soon as Gehlhaus was helped onto the stretcher she began yelling that she did not want to go with the paramedics, threw a blood pressure cuff, and struck Ellen Beckman, a paramedic who arrived on the scene.

The police officers on the scene then detained Gehlhaus and handcuffed her before transporting her to Boca Raton Regional Hospital to be medically cleared and moved to County Jail.
