FAU Defeats 26th Ranked UCF

For the third time in 2014, the Florida Atlantic University baseball team went on the road to face an in-state, nationally ranked team. For the third time, the Owls walked returned home with a victory.

Five pitchers combined for a three-hit, 1-0 shutout of No. 26 UCF (29-20) in Orlando on Tuesday night, and each recorded a strikeout, marking the third time the Owls (25-23) have shut out an opponent.

Sophomore Brandon Rhodes got his third win of the season, dealing 2.1 innings of relief. Kyle Miller threw 3.2 innings of shutout baseball in his second start of the game. Kevin Alexander earned his sixth save of the season as he forced a three-up, three-down ninth inning.

Esteban Puerta reached on an infield error in the fifth inning and moved to second on a single by Mitch Morales. After a groundout moved the runners into scoring position, a passed ball allowed Puerta to score the game-winning run.

Brendon SangerTyler Rocklein and Stephen Kerr, who made a barehanded play in the game, also earned hits for the Owls.
