A charter bus transporting students from a field trip crashed into an overhang at Del Prado Elementary School recently injuring five students and two adults, officials said.

None of the injuries, including two who were taken to the hospital, were life threatening, officials said.
The group had just returned from their annual Safety Patrol trip to Washington D.C. when the bus rammed the overhang shortly after midnight May 15. They had flown into Palm Beach International, from where the bus, operated by Academy Bus LLC, drove them to the school Thursday evening, a school official said

The crash tore off the top of the bus and sent debris falling on the passengers.

Though there was some damage to the school building, classes began on time Friday morning, School District spokesman Owen Torres said.

Messages left for Academy Bus LLC were not returned by press time.
