  •  FAU’s new president John Kelly starts March with a $400,000 annual salary and $40,000 signing bonus as part of a 5 year contract, plus $60k retirement.
  •    Office Depot’s new CEO Roland Smith and his wife, Sandra Lynn have purchased a $3.65 million home in the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club.
  •    Former Boca Community Resources and Affairs Specialist Emily Lilly has been appointed community Liaison for Aurora Nurses Personalized Private Duty Care in Lighthouse Point.
  •    Four New playing fields are in the works for the Spanish River Athletic Facilities at 228 acre de Hoernle Park, 1000 NW Spanish River Blvd which already has 8 fields. Phase II will also include one field building and restrooms, bleachers and related amenities. Two fields will be oversize and two regular size.
  •   Boca Raton former hedge fund manager Matt Martoma was found guilty of federal insider trading charges, which benefited his company for $276 million. The Feds have pressured Martoma to rat out his boss, hedge fund manager Steve Cohen in a plea deal, but Martoma made an ill fated choice to stand trial despite considerable evidence against him and now faces 10 years in the slammer.
  •     The state DOT is setting aside $18.6 million for improvements to SR 7 (U.S. 441) between Glades Road and  Sample Road in Broward County.
  •    Comcast will shell out $45 billion to take over Time Warner and the merger will mean Comcast’s 1.2 million South Florida customers will be clobbered with substantial rate hikes to pay for the deal.            
  •      The White House came up with its 18th revision of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare that allows businesses with 50 or more employees off the hook until 2016 for providing health insurance for workers or pay a penalty, with critics calling the delay a blatant political move to take the heat off Democrats supporting the unpopular law in the fall elections.
  •      South Florida law schools churning out lawyers are charging a bundle with no guarantee of a job after graduation or passing the bar. University of Miami nailed students for almost $44,000 a year, University of Florida $22,000, Florida State $21,000 and Nova Southeastern $35,000 with out of state students pay about double the state rates for public schools. UM tops the enrollment with 1307 students.
