County hosted National Guard 2011 High School Player Development program

Through the efforts of the Office of Community Revitalization (OCR), Palm Beach County hosted the National Guard’s 2011 High School Player Development program.

This two-day event was held June 10 and 11 at Palm Beach Lakes High School. Participating coaches included Palm Beach Lakes Head Coach Alonzo Jefferson and former NFL and Florida State wide receiver Jessie Hester.

Participating local schools included: Boca Raton Community High School; Atlantic Community High School; Spanish River High School and West Boca Raton High School.

This is the third year of the National Guard’s sponsorship of the HSPD program. During each session, members of the National Guard spoke with participants about personal development and community service while providing support to coaches on site.

The program included personal and professional development, life skills and college-preparation, and a non-contact football tournament. Participants learned study skills, time management, anger management, decision-making and transferable skills that can be used in football and ultimately life, such as responsibility, teamwork, goal-setting, communication, dedication and discipline.

Upon completion of this program, all teams/players became eligible to compete in the NFL 7-on-7 national tournament. The NFL and the National Guard provided all materials and supplies.
