FAU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities plans 5K Pumpkin run

BOCA RATON — Committee members are hard at work organizing the first 5K Pumpkin Run to benefit the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) (www.coe.fau.edu/card) at Florida Atlantic University.

The event will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Track and Field Complex at FAU in Boca Raton.  The 5K certified course will take runners through the FAU Boca Raton campus.

The fee to participate is $10 for anyone under 18 and FAU students, $25 for pre-registration through October 11 and $30 after October 11. Food will be provided

“We invite everyone in the Boca area to participate.  There’s something for everyone—a 5K for runners, a one mile fun run and a free kids run,” said 5K Pumpkin Run Committee Chairman Robert Rubin, president of Rubin Wealth Advisors and a member of the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees.  “All funds raised go to support programs that help people with autism and related disabilities.”

Committee members include Robert Rubin of Rubin Wealth Advisors, Jack Scott and Kyle Bennett of FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, Tom Vladimir of Runners Edge, Teri Velardi and Jen Rendfrey of The ‘W’arehouse Fitness Studio, Debbie Abrams of The Buzz Agency, Joe Cardenas of Bank United and Tashia Rahl of The HLN Company.

“We are so grateful for the level of community support we have received to make the 5K possible.  The funds raised will help us serve even more people with autism,” Dr. Jack Scott, director of CARD said.

The Center for Autism & Related Disabilities at FAU provides free support and services for people with autism and similar disabilities, their families, schools and community agencies. Serving Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties, FAU CARD has offices in Boca Raton and Port St. Lucie, and a staff of seven clinicians serving over 2,200 families.

In addition to direct support for families and schools, FAU CARD provides workshops and training, hosts support groups, and helps foster community understanding of and better services for persons with autism and related disabilities.
